Description
Major segments of amyloid beta-protein were found in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's and Down's syndrome. Amyloid beta protein fragment 1-42 (Abeta 1-42) has antioxidant and neuroprotective properties. The accumulation of amyloid beta protein is associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Down's syndrome. Abeta 1-42 can regulate cholesterol transport and act as a transcription factor. It may also have anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial effects.
